So we went through the initial journey of the Major Arcana. It does not mean the review of the Major Arcana is finished since each card contains so many meanings and significance that one short article will not cover everything. So we’ll come back to the Major Arcana again at some stage. But for now, let’s discuss a little bit about Qabalah.

Since esoteric philosophy provides the foundation of tarot, it is recommended to be acquainted with occultism before learning how to read the cards. Much of the Western esotericism and occult is based on the ancient philosophy of Qabalah. Originally Hebrew, Qabalah, means “receive inner wisdom”. Qabalah is not a religion yet all the common ideas of faith and religious traditions are reflected in the Qabalistic system. The system describes the dynamic mechanisms of the universe and the human psyche.

The idea of Qabalah reflects the relationship between microcosm and macrocosm, “as above so below as within so without”, indicating the schema of seeing the same patterns reproduced in all levels of the cosmos from the largest scale to the smallest scale. Comprehension of this concept is the fundamental key in practicing Qabalah.

Seeing the mechanism of how things are connected and related to all other things expands the awareness and  understanding of the world. In due course understanding the world allows an individual to be able to analyze and understand him/herself and their own surrounding.

Nurturing such intellectual activities reflects the true path of spiritual pursuit.

For this reason Qabalah is a powerful tool of self-exploration, bringing out the “True Self”.
