What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese holistic energy healing method, founded by Mikao Usui in the mid 1800’s. It is meant as a complimentary treatment for the issues of the mind, body and spirit.
As we all know, our bodies heal itself. This is achieved through a complicated yet structured system of immune system. At times this natural healing mechanism is compromised due to the lack of chemical substances such as vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, or oxygen, or the flow of circulation or nervous system is blocked, or a negative emotional state is constantly creating stress factors, or else, a conditioned thinking/habits and cognitive survival pattern keep feeding negative memory in the physical and energy body. These factors all disturb the immune system to function properly. Reiki enhances this universal natural process of healing by bringing bodies to its optimal state and returning it to equilibrium.
Although broad theories as to what causes these effects or exactly how healing occurs is not yet to be confirmed, there are research and documents that Reiki lowers heart rate, blood pressure, stress hormones while increasing immune strength. Reiki is to be used to relax and strengthen individual wellbeing, reducing anxiety and fatigue, and support recovery after injuries or surgery.
Additionally Reiki helps the body and mind to tune into a desired state. Both body and mind resonates with others that are on a similar frequency. That is why negative mind attracts negative events, and positive mind attracts positive events in life. Reiki will tunes you into your own biorhythmic optimal wavelength state, such that your energy will be calibrated to resonate with what you want to attract.

What happens during a Reiki session?
You will be fully clothed while lying on a treatment chair. Most commonly, Reiki is offered through light, non-invasive touch with the practitioner’s hands placed and held on a series of locations on the head and front and back of the torso. The placement of the hands should never be intrusive or inappropriate, nor should there be any pressure. Reiki may feel warm and tingling. If you become uncomfortable, you can adjust your position at any time. Be sure to ask for anything that will add to your comfort, such as additional support under your knees or a blanket. If you have any shyness about being touched, you should openly ask a question about it.
Receiving Reiki is a positive passive experience. Don’t strive to relax, just let the Reiki relax you. Your state will shift quite naturally as the session proceeds. People often comment how comforting they find the experience of Reiki to be. Sometimes the experience of Reiki is dramatic, while for other people, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they feel somehow better afterward. The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation. Reiki is cumulative and even people who don’t notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue for more sessions. Although people typically leave a Reiki session feeling refreshed, sometimes they notice feeling more tired in the evening than usual. This is not viewed as an adverse reaction, but rather as the body’s natural healing response, something to be heeded.
Because there is nothing about a Reiki session that can interfere with conventional medical care, Reiki has no known contraindications and can be used concurrently with any medical intervention. Furthermore Reiki has not been found to have any adverse effects. The recipient is not required to ingest any substances. The Reiki practitioner is neutral, making no attempt to fix the recipient. Thus Reiki will not override the action of medical interventions, but rather support the patient while he or she goes through them, restoring balance in body, mind, and spirit to the degree possible.
All that said, remember that it is up to you to be responsible for your own medical care and seek appropriate help. Do not go for a Reiki session for a diagnosis and do not avoid recommended medical tests or treatments.
